    2007 Junior Reports

The season got off to a bad stars for the KwikCar sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh Juniors with the first rain for a month washing out the first fixture.

This meant that the first action of the week took place on Wednesday when the under 15's entertained S & B at Sea Cop.

Batting first S & B scored a respectable 99 with Lee Bolton top scoring with 58no,in reply Fleetwood struggled to get to grip with the S & B fielding and wickets fell at regular intervals with only Scott Francis showing any resistance with 22,eventually they were all out for 47 which was a low score on a decent wicket.

On Thurday the under 13's entertained Southport Trnity in what was a more closely contested match, batting first Trinity scored a total of 81 which was well within the reach of Fleetwood.

After a poor start Steve Gregroy(15) W.McKeand (14) and Conor Allison (28) took Fleetwood to the point of victory, however with Conor Allsion being caught by an excellent catch, his team requiring 9 runs of 12 balls.

The following batsmean were unable to reach the target due to tight bowling by the Trinity bowlers, who took 3 wickets in that period, leaving Trinity to take the points.

A better week for the Kwikcars sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh Juniors began with a visit to Ormskirk for the under 18's.

Batting first Ormskirk struggled to reach 88 for 7 off their allocated overs, only Chris Smith with 36 managed to score runs, but excellent bowling led by by Andrew Watts 4-12 restricted them.

In reply Fleetwood Hesketh struggled to reach to target with batsman appearing to get settled and then get out, however with the scores tied on 88 each Fleetwood required 1 run to win with two balls left, however their inability to put bat on ball cost them and the game was tied.

On Wednesday the under 15's travelled to Maghull and batting first scored an impressive 103 for 2 with Hugh Summerfield top scoring with 41,in reply Maghull could only muster 44 for 7 off their allocated, his gave the opportunity for most players to have a bowl in what was a confortable victory.

On Thursday the under 13's entertained S & B at home, batting first they managed a respectable total of 98 for 9 with Conor Alison (23) and Matty Harris(28) batting well for Fleetwood after losing first 3 wickets for 5 runs.

In reply S & B set off scoring well and with 6 overs to go appeared to be heading towards a win, however the loss of Galley for 48 with the score on 74 gave Fleetwood bowlers the lift they needed and some excellent feilding restricted the remaining S & B batsmans runs.

With the game reaching a climax the batsman were unable to score the required total, resulting in Fleetwood winning by 9 runs.

With the under 18's and under 15's having no matches this week the spotlight fell upon the Kwikcar sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh Under 13's who visited Ormskirk on Thursday evening.

With Ormskirk batting first the opening bowlers kept things tight with good accurate bowling backed up with the same quality of feilding which saw them win the previous week.

Steve Gregory being the pick of the bowlers with figures of 1 for 12 off his allocated 4 overs, realising that they were not scoring quick enough they began to lose wickets at regular intervals and eventually finished with a score of 88 for 5, top scorer being opening batsman D Ballie (23).

In reply Fleetwood set of at a steady pace with both Conor Allison (31) and Will McKeand (25 no) setting the innings on its way, once Allison was out Matty Harris entered the fray with a quickfire 22 not out which saw the team to victory with almost 3 overs to spare, another excellent performance against one of the better teams in the league.

The week started badly for the Kwikcars sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh juniors with the visit of Formby to Sea Cop for the under 18's match.

Batting first Formby amassed an impressive 166 of their 20 overs, due not only to excellent batting but also to poor bowling and terrible fielding which included at least 7 dropped catches.

In rely Fleetwood continued to play poorly with batsman trying to win the game from the first ball and therefore getting out cheaply, they managed to 90 runs all out on what was a disappoiting evening.

The gloom however was lifted the following evening when the under 13's played Newburgh in the cup.

Batting first Fleetwood managed a excellent scored of 140 with Steve Gregory(62) top scoring,in reply Newburgh struggled to score runs due to tight bowling which allowed other bowlers to get in form with the ball.

They managed 51 for 5 after the allotted 20 overs, the best bowler also being Ste Gregory with figures of 2 for 6 of 3 overs.

On Thursday they again entertained New Victoria in a league match that was much closer than on Tuesday, batting first they scored a respectable 87 for 5 with Jack Audsley (31) top scoring, the score should have been more but for poor runing between the wickets in the middle part of the innings.

In reply New Victoria struggled to get to terms with the bowling, but after losing three early wickets, two middle order batsman came together and produced a partnership of 35 which took them to the brink of victory, they made sure of victory with one over to go.

A busy week for the Kwikcar Sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh Juniors started when the under 18's entertained Rufford.

Batting first Fleetwood were only able to manage a poor total of 70 all out, this was mostly due to poor batting, with numerous batsmen throwing their wickets away.

Only Stephen Williams(20) showed any kind of form,in reply Rufford set off at a steady pace with the total well in sight and finished for the loss of only 2 wickets, in what was in the end was a comfortable victory, as Fleetwoods bowling and fielding mirrored the batting.

On Tuesday the under 13's enetertained Charnock Richard in the Cup at Sea Cop and batting first they amassed a great total of 164 for 2 ,this included a fine 58 from Steve Gregory and Matty Harris with 63 not out.

In reply Charnock struggle to get to grips with the opening bowlers with Michael Howarth taking 2 wickets for 4 runs, this then allowed everyone to have a bowl that night, with Charnock Richard finishing on 110 for 7.

On Wednesday the under 15's travelled to Ormskirk and batting first scoring a respectable 115 for 5,Scott Francis(36) and Stuart Dolman(27) started the innings well.

In reply Ormskirk came close to the total finishing with a respectable 90 for 5,the pick of the Fleetwood bowlers being Phil Jones with 3 for 16 off 5 overs, top scorer for Ormskirk being L Brocken with 31.

On Thursday the under 13's returned to action in the league with a match against Ainsdale which turned out to be a cracker.

Batting first Fleetwood scored what appeared to be a great score of 138 for 3,this included an opening partnership between Conor Alison(36) and Will McKeand(42) of 103 before Alison was out.

This total should have been plently, however the opening batsman of Ainsdale, Steven Lucas believed otherwise, setting off at a slow pace due to tight bowling of the opening bowlers he started to hit the ball to all directions making the target look smaller as the overs passed by.

However it was not to be,with Ainsdale finishing just short on 127 for 3,but on hitting the last ball of the innings for 2 it meant that he got a well deserved century in one of the best matches seen on a Thursday evening for many a year.

An excellent week for the Kwik Cars sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh Juniors began on monday night when the under 18's travelled to Burscough.

Batting first in a game reduced to 16 overs they managed only to score 72 runs with Andrew Watts top scoring with 50, In reply Burscough struggled and lost their first 4 batsmen for only 23 runs and things were looking promising, however Lee Berrie(33no) managed to stay at the crease for the rest of the game and although they lost more wickets, he saw his team to victory with three balls remaining.

On Tuesday was the first round of the under 20's LDCC knockout and Fleetwood entertained Ainsdale.

Again batting first Fleetwood managed a total of 138 with Andrew Watts top scoring with 62,in reply Ainsdale struggled at first to match the required run rate, but some wayward bowling managed to let them in with a chance which they duly accepted.

With wickets falling the batsmen managed to hit the ball hard and scored at an impressive rate which resulted in them finishing two runs short, causing a few anxious moments in the Fleetwood dressing room.

On Wednesday the under 15's travelled to S & B to face the only team to have beaten them this year, electing to bat first they only managed to score a total of 75 thanks largely to Phil Jones (24), this being a decent total if defended well.

After this people at Trafalgar Road witnessed one of the best games of cricket seen for a while, with excellent bowling from Jon Leatherbarrow 4 for 17 and Phil Jones 3 for 20, together with great fielding, catches and run outs S& B finished on 69 all out.

The early bowling against good batsmen set up the game and the pressure applied by the fielding forced their opponents into making mistakes to complete and excellent night.

The following evening the under 13's were also at S & B and batting first scored a respectable 98,with Matty Harris(25) & Richard Wincer(19) top scoring.

In reply, again execllent fielding created pressure on the opposition which slowed the run rate down and forced players to hit out and eventually getting caught with some good catches taking place.

S&B did manage a flutter near the end which caused some worry but two good last overs by Ste Gregory & Michael Howarth halted any ideas S & B had of winning the match as they finished on 93.

It was almost normal service resumed for the Kwik Cars sponsored Fleetwood Hesketh Junior sides, after all the rain of the last two weeks when the under 18's played S & B on Monday night.

Batting first Fleetwood made a good start with a partnership of 49 between Danny Card and Steve Williams, after that it was all downhill due to players throwing their wickets away for no apparent reason.

They eventually finished on 77 after the 20 overs,in reply S & B were always in command, but lost wickets steadily and they finally made the winning runs for the loss of 6 wickets and 3 overs to spare.

On Tuesday the under 13's entertained Ormskirk in the semi final of the cup.

Again batting first they scored a good score of 113 for the loss of 8 wickets,Matty Harris top scored with 46,in reply, Ormskirk found runs hard to come by mainly due to an excellent spell of opening bowing by Ste Gregory who got 1 wicket for 8 runs off his allocated 4 overs.

Wickets fell every few overs after that mainly due to batsmen having to hit out to attempt to get near to the total, however Fleetwood cruised into the final as Ormskirk finished on 96.

On Wednesday the under 15's also managed to play against Rainford.

Batting first they scored an respectable 118 off their allocated overs with Hew Summerfield(34) and Phil Jones(37) top scoring,in reply, Rainford managed 77 for the loss of 8 wickets which included a couple of wickets for Richard Cheetham who's bowling in recent weeks has projected him into the limelight.

However the rain returned on Thursday which forced the abandonment of the under 13's league match and we've had no cricket at Sea cop since.
