Royal Visits to Southport in 1955
I've recently obtained this copy of a colour film made of the Queen's visit to Southport in April 1955, and Princess Margaret's visit in the same year, which includes some interesting shots of Lord street, Chapel Street, and Haig Avenue.

Yes....fantastic memories.......as a nine year old lad I was standing in Preston New Road, opposite Mallee Crescent and watched the motorcade drive past.....later I cycled to Red Lane (Foul Lane) railway crossing to watch the Royal Train pass on the lower line (via Blowick...this line long closed)
During the visit of Princess Margaret, I will in the grandstand at Haig Avenue football ground.
Thanks for posting.

Princess Margaret
At the time I was a St John Ambulance Brigade Cadet.
I was presented to Her Royal Highness in a ceremony at the Town Hall and received my proficiency certificate from her.
Throughout her life I always considered her to be “My Princess” and held her in great esteem.
As a Cadet I used to attend local cinemas and theatres on duty in case any patrons wanting medical attention. I also did weekends at the Sea Bathing Lake and Pleasureground. Interesting for a 12/13 year old lad.
