    Fairground

My Dad worked at Pleasureland during the 50s and early 60s and would have loads of memories - I remember Peggy's Cafe - Pat

    The cafe

peggy's cafe where it cost 10 bob to hire the jug that the tea was put in. Peggy Howard is related by marriage to Poppy Rutherford (Howard). Poppy is my grandmum. She helped Peggy out at the serving hatch. That place was a licence to print money. My granddad was the cashier on the marine Lake and Peggy's husband Jack was a director or the like of the Southport Boating Company that had the rights for boats on the lake

My Dad used to work on a ride which had small cars, similar to a Noddy car. my brother and I used to get plenty of free go's around the fairground. My Nan used to work on one of the side stalls next to the hammer and bell stall. Lots of good memories, but some very embarrassing photos , which I hide from my daughter or her friends will make me a laughing stock.

    Nostalgia

ianpw Don't be a coward I 'd love to see those pics. The cars you talk about were Go Carts and the attendents used to show off by jumping on them as they sped by. They would take back to starting point when your time was up. Your dad may have given you free rides but there was method in his generosity. A working ride brought in the punters and it was the same on the motor boats on The Marine Lake acouple of boats out and the people on the bridge would hurry for their turn
There was a Guy called Syd Bennett that from memory was the mechanic for those cars and for The wall of Death too.

    Well put

    Lou
You are absolutely right but as you say there was an atmosphere that was marvellous about Pleasureland.
Even on rainy days there were smiles all round

Not sure what year this would have been taken. Can you smell the candy floss and doughnuts?

Would have been after 1956 because that as I recall was the year the water slide was built. I stand to be corrected probably Steve knows

    Water Slide

Two post cards from my collection..both postmarked 1906 !(on the reverse).....Slide appears to be the same design at least as the one Seivad shows....Could it be the same one?
