    Old Stations

The original Birkdale station which was situated near the end of the present Dunkirk Rd and operated from 1848 to 1851 when the present Birkdale Station took over starting its life as Birkdale Park Station.

Flyp, all photoes that I have seen of Lord Street railway station have always been taken from the Lord Street entrance looking down the platform towards the sea.

The interior shot intrigues me, are there other shots available from the shore end of the station looking towards Lord Street.

A friend of mine, knows someone , whose father travelled on the last train to Lord Street and filmed it with a cine camera. The results of which the son found when clearing his father's house. My mate has suggested that he considers getting the results transferred to video, or DVD and consider selling on the market.
Wow, something from 1952 that has never been seen.

Should details come my way I will let you know on line.

I always remember Churchtown station with fond memories, not that I used it much as a lad. It was an annual trip to Blackpool by steam train that I remember happily. My family would sit on the station full of excitement waiting for the train, and the train use to stop just off Blackpool Prom. It is now that big car park by the police station. Great memories, and while we are thinking of that does anyone remember the Virginia street bridge. My brother and I use to get into loads of trouble running to stand over the steam engine as it left the station on Chapel st. Simple pleasures then, now I suppose kids would not even give those engines a look.

Churchtown station was where the doctors surgery is, next to the chemists, the tracks ran through the kitchen/bathroom shop. As for Blowick I cannot remember that station at all, it must be before my time, at least i am glad something is.

    Not quite true Peter52....

There was a bridge over the road and the rails were on an embankment and ran behind the houses on Balmoral Drive and alongside The Botanic Gardens to Merelwood Avenue before going under Brockhouse Bridge into Crossens Station.

I may be old but I ain't stupid..!!!

I don't remember electric trains going to that station, Ped. Used to always be a steam train to Preston till it closed about 1969, I think.
How far along was it electrified?

In Rob Gell's book 'An Illustrated Survey of Railway Stations Between Liverpool and Southport' he comments that Blowick was situatedat Cop End, and was on the old direct route between Wigan and Southport (chapel Street).

Churchtown station closed when the Preston to Southport line closed. Electric services to Crossens ceased on the Saturday, and the steam trains on the through service finished on teh Sunday.
