Abenis you ask about Tony Boyd, his end was very sad. You may know that he was in some sort of partenership with Billy Defty at the Swan. After some kind of dispute they fell out and Billy bought Tony's share. Tony then decided to buy a business of his own, it was the infamous hotel at the end of the Scarisbrick Parade he paid £20,000 for a nine year lease on the property and then a substantial sum to refurbish it as the accomodation was in a bad state. Where he got his advice from I don't Know however the business lasted about a year before he went bust. He spent his last days deteriorating and drinking begging from his old friends. He spent some time squatting, of all places, in the attic of the county club. He finally died in Southport about 8 or 9 years ago. Apparently only one person attended his funeral it may have been Matty Paton. Matty has also since died.

i haven't got any pictures of Alan but it was generally accepted by those of us that played snooker that he was the best player in town during the 60s and 70s and probably later but he paacked up playing league snooker.
I spent years at Nabbs in the late 60's70's and used to watch the likes of tony boyd, kk, keith Thompson and one guy,I can't remember his name, longish hair, fag in mouth and an unusual stance where he basicall stood up whislt playing a shot. They always played on table one. Les used to be behind the 'bar'. I believe Alan played at a 'club' by the lights near St Lukes bridge.
