This thread worries me! I lived in Guildford Rd near the end of Central Ave in the 50's/60's but, cant remember any of this. I am getting a little long in the tooth though!

Dick Jones lived in the cul-de-sac leading to Carr Lane 'Reck he was certainly doing his stuff in the 50's and 60's. He had a son called David, known locally as DD or Dangerous Dave
We used to get pop of him Aerowata as I seen to recall which had the replaceable stopper.
Another one to try the fruit and veg round was Alan Campbell, later on All White taxis, he even tried doing a bread round before the fruit and veg as he'd worked for Coulton's bread.

Mmm. Poor Mr Whiteside. I remember his wife too. Always had a wrap around pinny on. Little frail lady. Mr Whiteside used to go and visit her every Sunday when she was in Ormskirk Hospital. She always gave me a drink of pop if she answered door to me. Good Times Hey!

Didn't Dick Jones also sell fresh fish from a handcart on Friday mornings? He used to park the cart at the junction of Liverpool Road, Shaws Road, and Shaftesbury Road, and ring a hand bell to alert possible customers.
I also remember another character who used to go round sharpening knives in the back of a really old three wheeler. All the kids used to gather round to watch the sparks flying (including me). He used to park on Liverpool Road opposite Arthur Bimpson's shop.
