    Boys Brigades

According to the BB website there are only 5 Companies in Southport:

    1st St Philips
    4th St Simons
    7th Liverpool Rd Meths
    9th Ainsdale Meths
    10th Marshside Rd Meths.

What happened to the others and were did they meet? I can remember the 2nd who met at All Souls in Norwood Rd and the 3rd who met at Victoria Meths

Does anybody remember the others or have any memories of them?

I was in the 12th (southbank rd Meths) and remember loads about my time there.Great bunch of lads and a pretty good football team.
The 1st Ormskirk used to be on Wigan rd I think, they would compete against the Southport companys being the only one in Ormskirk, and vaguely remember OTS competing in an indoor sports event once!.

My dad was a member of the 1st ( St Philips) in the 40's and 50's.
The 3rd was originally Baptist Tabernacle, the 5th was at St Johns Birkdale, the 6th was at St Pauls ( Duke St, now demolished)

I'm not sure the number but there was a Company that operated from a church at the corner of Brighton Road/Kew Road (now houses) in the 1960's.
It was started by Jim McGuiness who used to be the Captain at Liverpool Road Methodist Church and if I remember the 5th Brigade operated from a Church Hall (which was originally a school) in Sandon Road but was affiliated to St John's Church in Birkdale.

I joined the 12th, round about 69/70, and Jim McGuiness helped Garth Bridge run that company then.
Maybe it was the 12th on the corner of Brighton/Kew originally??

I was a member of the Boys Brigade company @ Brighton Rd Methodist church in the early 60`s and it was the 9th Southport Company and Jim had come from the 7th company at Liverpool Rd Methodist church .

Ian (Garth) Bridges and Ken ??????? were also officers in the 9th company as well.

Some of the members I remember were Mike Quinn, Fred Harvey and brother Dave, Albert Eccles, Lawrence Golding, Mike Finn, Anthony (Plum) ?????? just to name a few.

Oh yes. I'd forgotten about Ken Grundy. You may well be right.
In fact it might even be both. With regard to Ian Bridges was he the one who lived in Stafford Road, had a brother called Malcolm?

    Boys brigade

    You've missed one out.
8th Southport Co. based at Crossens Methodist Church. Bert Wignall was an early captain along with ? Then for many years Bob Wright took it on. He recruted many local lads. Some I remember are: Derek and Alan Ainscough. Bill Holdsworth. Mike Abram. Lloyd Lewis. Ian Howard. Gary Pudge. Brian Murphy. We ended up with a great marching band bugles and drums and our band 'dress uniform' were tartan kilts! Seem to remember a good level football team and cross country events. Summer camp at Saundersfoot? We all went in the back of a removals truck, tents, equipment and lads...no health and saftey then!
Another camp on Anglesey; two sargeants attended a local village disco to the anger of the locals! They eventually got back to camp after taking a beating. But they had a great night out with the best two girls at the disco!!! Got some photo's somewhere will try to dig them out.
