On a baking hot and muggy evening Southport drew a blank in a hard fought game against Witton Albion.

Once again, Liam had a look at a number of trialists as well as giving all the signed up players some game time.

We have a long pre-season and getting the players back to full fitness is the aim after the long lay off as well as working on shape and formation.

It was a game of few chances, the best falling to Mo Ali in the 85th minute when he had a clear shot on goal after a half cleared corner fell to him but fired straight at the ‘keeper.

Marcus Carver and Connor Woods both went close but the very well drilled Witton defence dealt effectively with most of the Southport’s forward forays into the box and snuffed out any danger.

Both sides worked hard to craft an opening but the defences were on top and a 0-0 draw was always looking likely.

Liam was pleased with the work out as was his counterpart, former ‘Port player Carl MacAuley as both manager’s look to continue to prepare for the real thing at the beginning of October.
