A vandal climbed over the locked gates on Southport Pier yesterday morning and caused damage to the pavilion.

A spokesperson for the owners commented...

Why do we lock the pier gates when the concessions are closed you ask?


When closing the gates of an evening our staff are often met with a barrage of abuse. When we explain that there is lots of antisocial behaviour in Southport and that it’s too much of a risk to leave the pier open so that dog walkers/joggers etc can enjoy a walk we are often ridiculed and laughed at.


We are told that antisocial behaviour is nothing new and we need to “get over it”.



Yesterday morning at 530 am a man, seemingly high on drink and drugs, trespassed on to the pier and caused £1000s of criminal damage to our pavilion. Thankfully he didn’t gain entry but if he had, our lovely refurbished cafe bar would have been destroyed. All of the hard work we have put in for months !



We have clear cctv of the man throwing chairs at our doors and eventually using a Sefton council bin to smash up the automatic and fire doors on the pavilion.


A passer by also filmed the “gentleman” walking back on the wrong side of the gates.



The matter is now with Merseyside police but we just wanted to highlight the difficult plight we face.
