Following a sewage spill that took place on Saturday night and Sunday morning from Crowland Street sewage plant thousands of fish have been affected.

Many of them are dead or in severe distress due to lack of oxygen in the water.

A series of events still being investigated caused raw sewage to be released into the water.

The Environment Agency were contacted at 7.45 on Sunday morning but did not take the matter seriously.

Now 72 hours later the EA are doing all they can to oxygenate the water and clean up.

Fish are now being seen dead the the Pumping Station in Banks.

On 12 April 2010, UU pleaded guilty before North Sefton Magistrates’ Court to one charge under s.85 of the Water Resources Act 1991.

The court heard that the pollution had caused significant damage to the waterway, with experts predicting that it could take between 7 to 10 years for the river to fully restore itself.

So it's probably just about restored itself, and they do it again, unbelievable!

I used to hold a Southport and District Fishing licence, this was about 8- 10 years ago,and I remember the other occasion well, hence the obvious reason that I have never renewed my S & D Ticket since...Was distressing the last time, and now the same waters have been polluted again ? Disgusting that they took 72 hours to respond to the present situation, but I suppose that the U.U will say it was because of the Covid-19,as it seems to be the cause of a lot of deaths at the present time
