On November 11, 7:30pm at the Salvation Army in Shakespeare Street, Southport resident Paul Carter will tell the story of the life and death of his daughter, Nicola.

She died in January aged 40. This was after ten years fighting alcoholism.

It broke her spirit, her hope, her belief. What seemed a refuge from difficulty in life became a trap.

Paul wants to help people realise alcohol addiction is not confined to down-and-outs and people in the pub every night. It is behind many doors, in happy and prosperous families and because people are ashamed they ignore it or hide it away.

He hopes people can learn from his family's experience and understand better what help exists and how to use it while there's time.

Support organisations will be present and while the evening is free of charge, donations to help support services are welcome.
