Police commented...

On Sunday we posted a warning to local residents of a number of reported thefts of items from cars around convenience stores in the Birkdale/Hillside areas of Southport. Sadly, a number of these incidents took place again last night, Monday 11th Jan.



Attempted thefts of vehicles and of items left in cars were reported on Ashley Road, Liverpool Road, Ainsdale and Clive Road, Birkdale. A car was stolen from the drive of an address in Boundary Street, but this car was subsequently found in Ainsdale. Thieves often leave stolen cars parked up a short distance away from the original location in case trackers are attached to the vehicle.

On this occasion, the car was reported to us after a local resident saw details of the theft elsewhere on social media, which enabled the car to be recovered. So if you notice unusual cars parked up in car parks or places where you don't recognise the vehicle, it is always worth reporting the car to us in case it happens to be a stolen car.



High value and prestige cars have always been targets for thieves/burglars. Criminals target cars themselves and also any items of value left inside them, like handbags, wallets, tools and Sat Navs. Vehicle registration plates are also sometimes stolen.
