Email regarding the Station masters House in Birkdale.




Hi , I am writing in my capacity as Chairman of a Birkdale project which was set up to replace Birkdale Library which had been closed down by Sefton Council as part of their Council cut backs.

You have featured news on the Station Masters House a few times in recent years and, as you know, we have acquired premises from Merseyrali to take the project forward. Currently the builders are carrying out internal structural changes, including the installation of a lift.

The whole thing is taking shape and we are hoping to be able to open in the summer as the Birkdale Community Hub and Library. This will be far more than just a library and will provide a focal point for the whole area.

Obviously fundraising is a continual process and with this in mind we are organising a talk by Martin Griffiths on Friday 20th March @ 7.30, to be held at the Southport & Birkdale Cricket Club on Trafalgar Road, Birkdale.


Martin has given previous talks to raise funds for our project and they are always extremely popular.

This time his talk will be about "Wrecks off the Southport Coast". His knowledge on the subject is based around 50 odd years of research and he features over 10 wrecks including the Star of Hope, wrecked bringing cotton to Liverpool in 1883, the Chyrsopolis wrecked in 1918, the Iconic Star, and the Charles Livingstone, a pilot boat that foundered 1939 with a shocking loss of life.

We would be extremely grateful if you could help us to publicise this event and, indeed, the project generally.

The cost for the evening will be £5 per person, payable on the door. However, to get an idea of the numbers expected, we would be grateful if those wishing to attend could email or phone their intentions as the numbers are limited.
