Southport welcome Blyth Spartans to the Pure Stadium as they look to earn their first victory of September.

Last week’s 1-1 draw away to York City give Liam Watson plenty to be positive about, with a solid performance against one of the in-form sides in the Vanarama National League North.

This week’s opponents, Blyth , currently sit rock bottom of the division and are still looking for their first win of the campaign, despite finishing in a play-off places last season.

Their only two points of this year has come in draws against Bradford (Park Avenue) and Kidderminster Harriers.

The Port will be hoping to put in a high scoring performance, with the Spartans holding the second joint worse defensive record in the league, conceding 23 goals in ten games.

Their biggest defeat came last week against Spennymoor Town, with the the Moors putting five past against Lee Clark’s side.

The former Birmingham City and Blackpool manager will be hoping his fortunes will soon begin to change after the difficult start.

A major problem for his side has been scoring goals, after only registering four so far this season, with Robert Dale getting two of those.

The Spartans have clearly not replaced Daniel Maguire, who scored 14 goals last term, before joining York in the summer.

When the two sides met last year, Blyth won 1-0 at the Pure Stadium and 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Watson will be hoping his side can produce a better result this time and come up with a victory.
