Southport welcome Spennymoor Town to the Pure Stadium this weekend as they look to continue their current unbeaten run of form.

After victory at Gloucester City followed by draws against Bradford (Park Avenue) and Hereford, the Port’s recent sequence will be put to the test with a difficult home fixture.

Another win looked certain last week when Liam Watson’s side visited Hereford, but two late goals from the home side saw the points shared.

This week’s opponents, Spennymoor, have been in good form, with three wins in their last four games.

Last time out, they welcomed Altrincham to the Brewery Field, earning a midweek 3-2 victory.

That result moved long-serving Jason Ainsley’s side up into the play-off places on 48 points.

A key player for the Moors this campaign has been Glen Taylor, who is currently on 13 goals, continuing his form last season, when he finished top scorer in the Vanarama National League North on 21.

It was a strike from the 29-year-old that separated Spennymoor and the Port when the two met back in November.

Two more men to watch for the Southport defence, is James Roberts and Rob Ramshaw, who were both on target last time out, and sit on eight goals each this season.

When the two sides last came head-to-head at the Pure Stadium, back in September 2018, the game ended in a draw, as Taylor bagged a late equaliser for the Moors to cancel out a Ryan Astles earlier goal.

This time Watson’s side will be looking to get all three points to keep their playoff hopes alive.
