Sefton Council's Cabinet Meeting scheduled for July 25th 2024 now has an agenda item for Southport Pier.

Update relating to Southport Pier, following progression of pre-construction work (and in advance of any award of the required capital funding, at the time of adding to the forward plan)
A&E Yates have completed thier onsite assessment of the pier and hopefully their report will be received well before the planned Council meeting.

And the resolution will be passed to close it for financial reasons. Watch this space

Absolutely nailed on certainty. I've more chance of growing buzzooms and changing my name to Elsie than the Brutal politburo coughing up cash for 'Tories' in Southport.

Incidentally, where are all the recently elected Lefties on this issue? Are they going to fight our corner or just toe the party line?

Since the meeting is to take place after the May elections, I would not be surprised if the dummy was spat out along with a refusal to comply with council obligations to maintain the areas that they are responsible for. Shame really since the pier is a far greater attraction than the nothing there is left in the town.

It's already closed, the issue now is trying to find sources of funding, little if any will be from Sefton Council Tax.

On that I agree. The Council struggles to meet its essential obligations with the income that it has from Council Tax payers and Government Grant.
If the Council suggested an additional Council Tax charge to meet the pier costings I suspect there would be a bigger uproar against paying it than there is currently for somebody else, anybody, to meet the cost.

Still a deafening silence as to what our recently elected Labour councillors are doing to fight Southport's corner - which is odd because we all know they monitor and post on this site.
Ordinarily there are post upon post on how busy they've been campaigning in the town.

Firstly, quality of reporting, NOTE SPELLING CORRECTLY. "THEIR ".

NOW TO THE REALITY OF LIFE. WE DON'T NEED THE PIER.
SECONDLY, WHILST ITS IN SEFTON COUNCILS HANDS IT WILL NEVER, NEVER
MAKE A PROFIT. ALONG WITH MANY OTHER ASSETS.
TOAD HALL CLOSED FOR 50 PLUS YEARS . LOST REVENUE TO SEFTON
PROBABLY AROUND 4 PLUS MILLION POUNDS IN RATES ETC.
THE LIST GOES ON. ITS NOT THE GOVERNMENTS FAULT. THE GOVERNMENT IS CONSERVATIVE. THE COUNCIL IS LABOUR. WHEN IT GOES WRONG BLAME THE "GOVERNMENT, THR CONSERVATIVES. ITS A LABOUR COUNCIL ".

Your right we don't need the pier.
Your right it won't make a profit in Seftons hands, no pier has made a profit for donkeys years and never will.
Toad Hall hasn't been closed for 50 plus years, if anyone wanted to reopen it the Council would bite their hand off.
The Council may be under Labour control now but it only for less than 12 years, previously until the late 80's if was Conservative then a Conservative / Liberal coalition.
