The McDonalds was a franchise and the lease was up, presumably the franchisee decided they didn't like the renewal terms or decided to retire.

Turn it into something that would get used like an indoor skatepark.

Best idea yet. Went there a couple of years ago. Miserable looking place. Didn't buy a thing. There must be many kinds of activities that would fit nicely in there.

That's a great idea, and would get families into the town centre.
However, there are a few issues:
1. Sefton MBC would have to run it: FAIL
2. Sefton MBC could hire overpriced consultants who know nothing about the town: FAIL
3. Parking? If it was a skate park like the one next to the pier, most users would be kids who could get there by bus. However, it could be an indoor 'ice' rink with synthetic ice, with a cafe etc.

Beloved Sefton Council 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🙄
On the subject of Scousers, surely the number of Scousers and non Southport born folk living in Southport far outweighs the Sandgrounder populous. A dying status it would seem.

Surely, it should be in Market St, plenty of room for it, and utilising the empty INDOOR stalls as well
Who ever you are Mr *concerned* you must be a business man with a comment like that.
So obvious.
Lord Street...................No Lords on Lord Street
Duke Street................. No Dukes on Duke Street
Soon no Market on Market Street
By the way my shop is on King Street.

Methinks you are confusing Southport with Skelmersdale :-)

So wouldn't the obvious answer be to stock things that people who live in Southport actually do want to buy? Lots of independent shops have been closing down in the town centre, due to high overheads. The market could be transformed into a lovely venue selling quality products that we can no longer get in Southport, but it would need money spending on it to achieve this...

Wasn't that the idea of revamping it in the first place?
Only problem was such traders didn't exist or didn't want to be in the market.

It must be embarrassing for Sefton having all those brown tourist signs on the approaches to the town, saying 'Southport Market'.
If any visitors actually find it and find somewhere to park, I would imagine they won't know whether to laugh or cry.

guess they guys that erected the market signs didn't bother with their guarantee obligations cause they like the council knew what was being stealthily being planned anyway, and left the sign held up with ducktape this long.sefton council .is that another initial for so corrupt.!

Before the Council refurbish the market it was a viable property.
The consultants stated that the new market would have a footfall of 20,000.
They actually has 2,000 which has disappeared.
