Officers are currently in attendance of a serious road traffic collision involving a police vehicle and a pedestrian on A59 Northway, Maghull which took place in the early hours of this morning (19th May).

The collision took place near the Alt Park Hotel Pub at around 20 past midnight this morning when the police vehicle was involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a man in his 30s, was taken to hospital where he is described as being in a critical condition. The officer sustained no injuries.

The ambulance service are also in attendance and road closures remain in place on both sides of the carriageway, to Switch Island. These will likely remain overnight and so road users are urged to use other routes if possible.

The incident has been referred to the IOPC for further investigation.
