The Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street is fast becoming an eyesore. After Qlocal pointed out recently about the window in the lounge being smashed since New Years Eve the hotel have now put vast amounts of gaffa tape on the window.

It looks an eyesore and not in keeping with with the "Classic Resort "image.

I have written to the council asking if there is any way that Southport's neglected iconic Hotel buildings can be placed under a mandatory purchase order. The owners appear to have left these buildings to deteriorate to such an extent that they give the whole town an appearance of total neglect. The buildings themselves are of beautiful historical architecture, in particular the Scarisbrick and the Prince of Wales. In good condition they would increase the visitor appeal in Southport.

And the Scarisbrick Hotel used to be an impressive landmark in the town, but now it has become the Biggest eyesore on Lord Street. What are Brittania doing to the hotel ? Absolutely nothing,it is the same with the Prince of Wales, and obviously Pontins,as they run all 3 of them. But what are the council going to do ? As they have not,and will not be able to do anything with Brittania being the owners of these places. You only need to look at the Adelphi in Liverpool to see how that has been ran down over the years, all Brittania are interested in is profits from people using these places, and NOT appearing to be interested in reinvesting money to do any development,or repairing the appearance of these buildings. So is it any wonder they are looking outdated and dilapidated in appearance ? Brittania are a disgrace running these places, you only need to read the news,or look at TripAdviser to know the facts of how this company is running these establishments.

Tony Cafferky must be turning in his grave, given the present state and decline of the Scarisbrick Hotel.

"Brittannia seem hell-bent on bringing down Southport's once iconic hotels to a sub-Pontins level. One would hope that the Council might give as much priority to this key industry in Southport as they have done fro the Bootle shopping centre.

I went past the other day and noticed the broken window. It is, however, laminated safety glass so there is absolutely no need to plaster all that black tape over the rest of the window unless, of course, the impact that caused the breakage has in some way loosened the beading. If that's the case, the whole pane needs replacing sharpish.

With regard to the general condition of the building, Sefton MBC could issue what's known as a 'Section 215 Notice', ordering Britannia to carry out repairs. A few years ago, I had an abandoned property next door that was being vandalised. A couple of strongly-worded emails to the council, reminding them of their duty to issue 215 notices where appropriate, resulted in a 215 being issued and the owner miraculously re-appearing to carry out the works. This was because, if he didn't, the council would do the work and charge him, and put the costs as a legal charge over the building so he couldn't sell it without paying them.

I would have thought that the local councillors who come on here must be well aware of 215 notices, but then again, if Sefton can't even enforce their own planning rules (viz: the Britannia amusement arcade) it makes you wonder if it's the tail wagging the dog. Britannia must be having a right old laugh at Southport.
