It appears the plan might be to clog up all the roads to encourage people to ride bikes - don't you think?
As the road is open to buses, and with cycle lanes either side restricting parking, I don't think there's any likelihood of a Fire engine getting stuck here!

It will be twice as busy now that Queens Road is closed.
Do any of the Council employees come to Southport and see the problems?
Queens Road from Manchester Road to Alexandra Road is narrower than Albert Road, so encouraging cyclists to use this route should remove them from Albert Road, to hopefully keep traffic moving easier. Cars and buses can still travel along Queens Road towards Manchester Road though, so it's not closed.
The stretch of Albert Road from Alexandra Road to the roundabout is very narrow, even without cars parked, but then, when it was built, traffic wasn't a problem. As you rightly say that it's a bus route and a delivery route into town. It would make sense that this should be double yellows each side, but I can imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth on here if that was done!

I've grown accustomed to your and your supporters with your facist left wing impositions. You do not represent the cyclists of this town and you do not represent me and my cycling interests. These changes are mindlessly stupid and unwarranted!

Easily! It's only the junction at Manchester Road/Queens Road that's no entry, so access can be made by Hackney/Private Hire etc through Hawkshead Street, or Alexandra Road.

Given the 'no entry' sign has now been removed I suggest the Council has checked the legal position - you can't change the class of a highway without consultation..... Those of us who are 'proper' cyclists in this town await the consultation. As ever you and your kind do not wish to face any public consultation and always subvert any attempt to introduce transparency! My statement still stands, your views do not represent the cyclists of Southport........

I found this on the Champion website:-
http://https://www.champnews.com/sto...N4_ART_1707599
There's mention how the Council have carried out consultation, (although not in their usual way, whatever that means?), but says it was rushed through due to the time scales involved.

My favourite thing about this scheme is that it has stirred up the all the fat purple-faced old men who never drive down there anyway.
