Southport BID are excited to announce that Peter Andre will be coming to Southport to headline this year’s Christmas lights switch on! The reality and TV star will be coming to the town on the 17th November head up a huge line up of entertainment and formally switch on this year’s brand-new lighting scheme.
Peter Andre is an accomplished global media star prominently known for his successful music and television career. Peter hit a peak in his music career during the 1990’s when he became the sixth highest selling artist in the UK. He had numerous number one hit singles, two number one albums and toured all over the world collecting a multitude of national and international awards along the way.
With many TV shows and appearances under his belt and with his Celebrating 25 Years tour now completed, the rest of the year sees Peter taking part in Grease: The Musical as well as many more amazing projects.
The star will head up a line-up that will also include Wet Wet Wet and Liberty X singer Kevin Simm, who won the Voice UK in 2017 and 80’s Liverpool legend Sonia. The annual event, organised by the BID funded by BID levy payers, has grown each year, with a spectacular day of entertainment bringing visitors from throughout the region.
The BID will also be putting on an exciting day of entertainment, fairground rides and street performance to ensure families can stay and enjoy the festivities all day. Starkidz open the show, with your favourite Ice Queen followed by well-known CBeebies presenter, Sid bringing his brilliant one man show to Southport.
There will be entertainment from local pantos and performers throughout the day until the main show at 4pm. TV presenter and former Heart Breakfast DJ Joel will be hosting throughout the afternoon.
Susannah Porter, the BID’s Interim Chairman, hopes this year’s line-up will bring the biggest crowds yet, “The last two years have seen crowds in excess of 6,000 for the main event making us one of the biggest switch on events in the region. We have had some great acts and we are excited to have Peter Andre coming to Southport this year, our biggest name to date! There is a full day of entertainment planned so we hope families will make a full day of it and spend time in the town centre enjoying the atmosphere”
The big switch on will reveal the BID’s new lighting scheme for 2019 along with the spectacular light show tree

A tad unfair he has a following and the likelihood of an "A" list celebrity switching on our lights is a little optimistic,
has anyone got Beyonces number in case he can't make it ?

I guess that the BID has to weigh up the following:
1. How much do they 'lose' on the skating rink, and how much is this offset by the incalculable Christmas enjoyment given to hundreds of children and families over several weeks?
2. How much are they paying these 'celebs' and how much will be recouped indirectly by the additional spending in the town on one evening? How can they calculate this?
3. How many people would still attend the switch-on evening if it wasn't done by a 'celeb'?

Skating rink should have been more than capable of paying for itself.
