Labour Party Parliamentary candidate for Southport Patrick Hurley comment on the latest development for Southport Pier.
Like most people, I'm not an expert on these things, but I do know that I don't want the council to do the job on the cheap. If this is what it costs, then this is what it costs.
It's right to make sure we support Sefton Council to get the right materials for the job, the right contractor for the job and make sure the pier is there for decades to come.
The last thing I want is a repeat of what happened 20+ years ago, when faulty materials and bad workmanship seem to have been used and the local authority was left carrying the can. I'm sure that the current administration in charge of Sefton Council are determined not to make the mistakes that their predecessors did back then.

Too darned right! Cheap repairs cost a lot more in the long run. Glad to hear the work is to start on the pier.

Has he recieved an answer from Ofgen yet, I hope he keeps us in the loop, and didn't just use this as a "look at me post"...
"Patrick Hurley, Labour’s candidate for Southport, has written to Ofgem to demand that they cap the network costs controlled by the DNOs, in order to remove regional disparities, and to set the cap at a reasonable and affordable level. "

Sefton Council were in charge of the whole show as a unitary authority & so the guardian of longevity/build quality? They signed off on the end installation and paid the contractor the public funds? They sold hundreds of lifetime plaques of deceased loved ones to the public? Are we to really believe, that they were just non culpable bystanders?
