For the fourth successive week we still have joint leaders in the First Division of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. Firstly, Aughton Institute E ended their evening's work with a 4-2 home victory over Olympic BC A to make it six wins from their first nine matches. The Aughton E lads will be looking for a good result next week which sees the final round of matches as we go into a longer Festive break to allow any teams the opportunity to play any outstanding matches. This match saw the excellent Robbie Wilson clinch his third 'Break of the Week' award of the current campaign as this time around he compiled a terrific break of 49 in his frame success. This latest win sees Robbie with an amazing 100% record so far with nine victories from his nine matches played and currently leads the Divisional Highest Ranked Player table single-handed.

Robbie's break began with an excellent mid range red ball pot as the cue ball lay near a side cushion. He gained excellent black ball position and after dispatching that black he was amongst the balls with an excellent chance and, yet again, Robbie certainly didn't disappoint. He potted a further three reds, all with high valued colours, in that quick fire, fluent style of his with some precise positional play, to quickly reach twenty seven. Again, he faced another awkward situation as he had to bridge over a ball to pot his next red, made more difficult as he tried to disturb a small cluster to open the frame right up. Robbie potted that ball confidently but very narrowly failed to disturb the cluster. He produced another excellent pot on the blue ball and quickly took a further two reds and pinks to reach forty nine. His next red, to complete the half century, required the use of the rest and unfortunately Robbie just missed the red to bring an end to a fine contribution.

Robbie started playing in the Ormskirk League at the commencement of the 1997-98 season for Stanley Club were he represented the B team playing in the First Division. At the start of the 1999-00 campaign the team became Stanley A, apart from the 2008-09 season as they became the B side once again, but his back to the A status the following term, and he remained there to the end of the 2011-12 season when the team sadly broke up. Robbie was part of the winning Stanley Club A team that captured the Le Rose Cup in 2003-04. On a personal note, Robbie captured last season's JF Wills Handicap crown, a competition that getting more and more competitive as each campaign goes by. He also won the 2010-11 Pairs Handicap title with his team mate and good friend, Robbie Radford. They were also runners-up in 2006-07. Robbie didn't played in the league for a couple of years but came
back at the start of the 2014-15 campaign when he signed for Maghull RBL A and has been an ever-present ever since and it saw him as a valuable member of that side after they sealed the second running of the Division One Merit League in his first season. He also moved with that team for the commencement of the 2016-17 season to Aughton Institute and competes in the Aughton Institute E side.

Red Lion Social Club A also continue as joint pace-setters as they too made it six successes so far this term as they produced a solid performance with a 4-2 away triumph at the expense of Upholland Social. This outcome sees them on the thirty seven point mark and a good result in the final week before the Christmas break will see them very well positioned for an assault on the league title during the second half of the season. The two outfits leading the way currently hold a three point advantage at the head of the league table.

The Olympic BC B boys engineered a fine 5-1 home victory over the Reigning Division One Merit League Champions, Aughton Institute A, to maintain their strong challenge to hopefully seal their maiden Division One crown. This result sees them move into third place in the league proceedings, were they sit those three points off the summit, but they do have that all-important match in hand over both the leading sides.

Fleetwood Hesketh SSC, Champions for the last six years, had their match postponed with Rainford X SSC this particular week. This sees them drop into fourth spot in the league standings but they lie just seven points adrift of top slot but have two very important matches in hand over the leaders so are very well placed in their quest to claim a staggering a seventh consecutive top flight title.

The other match played this week saw the very in-form Red Lion Social Club B manufacture their fourth successive win, after a slow start to the current campaign, as this time around they defeated Scarisbrick NSC 4-2. This outcome sees the Red Lion A team improve their league position yet again as they now find themselves in an excellent fifth place.

As mentioned above, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC sat out their free week this time.

The Division One merit table sees Scarisbrick NSC continue as pace-setters despite their defeat this particular time but they now increase their advantage to eight points were they sit on 88 points. Rainford X SSC remain in second position despite their match being postponed this time around, they stay on 80 points but do have a match in hand over the leaders. Third spot is still held by Red Lion Social Club B after yet another victory this week, they close to lie on 79 points. The tenth week updated table can be found below.

    Division 2

After this week's round of matches in Division Two it saw current leaders, St Cuthberts go marching on towards the title and a return to the top flight at the first time of asking. This particular week they ended their evening with a very solid 5-1 away triumph at the expense of Aughton Institute C. This result sees them take a terrific sixteen points from a possible eighteen available from their last three matches and this tremendous form of late sees them move an ominous-looking seven points clear of their nearest rival in the league table.

Skelmersdale Wardens A, the other side to come down from the First Division at the end of last season, are also going very well so far this term and they too are looking for a swift return. They clashed this time around with high-flying Stanley Club B and after a excellent battle it saw the Skelmersdale A lads come out on top with a fine 4-2 home victory. This outcome sees the teams swap league positions as Skelmersdale Wardens A moved into second position, those seven points off the pace, and the Burscough based Stanley B outfit dropped into third spot but lie just a single point behind their conquerors. This match saw Stanley B's Steve O'Hare in superb nick as he compiled a fine break of 36 in his frame success and this contribution sees him take over at the head of the Division Two Highest Break table, an award that Steve has won for, incredibly, the last three seasons and is now well placed to make it an amazing four times.

Farmers Club made it back-to-back victories this time around as they went into battle with struggling Stanley Club C and they recorded a 4-2 away win and this latest effort sees them with an impressive seven successes from eleven matches played to date. The result sees the Ormskirk based outfit remain unchanged in fourth slot in the league standings.

Skelmersdale Wardens C came up against Aughton Institute B this time around and it saw the Aughton B boys come away with a well earned 4-2 victory to claim their fourth win of the current campaign. The outcome sees the Skelmersdale Wardens C side continue in fifth in the league proceedings despite back-to-back defeats over the last two weeks, the Aughton B outfit still hold eighth. The match saw Skelmersdale C's Lee Sealey in exceptional touch with fine breaks of 35 & 29 in his frame success. In fact, Lee was very unlucky not to hold the current highest break in the Division as his 35 beat the previous mark that he stood for several weeks but with a slightly higher break recorded this week he didn't have that pleasure.

The other match played this particular time saw Reigning Champions, Aughton Institute D engineer their third win of the season with a solid 4-2 home triumph over Skelmersdale Wardens B and they will certainly be looking for a series of good results to try and mount a serious title defence after a slow start to the campaign. Their reward for their efforts saw them move into sixth in the league table.
