Just three matches were contested this particular week in the top flight of the Ormskirk & District Amateur Snooker League. The most interesting of the three ties saw a clash between Olympic BC B and their club compatriots, Olympic BC A in the Walton 'Derby' match and at the end of the evening it saw the Olympic B outfit whitewash their opponents with an impressive 6-0 triumph.

    This result has a big
bearing on the current league table as they moved up two places and into second position to sit just a single point behind the leaders but they have played a vitally important match more than them but will surely fight all the way to finally seal their maiden Division One title.

Lathom & Burscough RBL went into battle with Upholland Social this time around and after an excellent, competitive match it saw both sides sharing the spoils in a 3-3 stalemate. The match saw the Upholland Social boys very quick off the mark as they swiftly raced into a 2-0 lead then maintained it by arriving at 3-1 but much credit to the Lathom & Burscough team as they fought back to win the last two frames of the encounter to force the draw. This outcome sees the Burscough outfit remain in fifth slot in the league proceedings but the Upholland Social side move up into sixth place in the table.

The other match saw Red Lion Social Club B record their seventh success of the current campaign with an excellent 5-1 victory over Rainford X SSC. This result sees the Maghull based side continue in eighth in the league standings in what has been a solid season for them as they sit a massive twenty three points clear of the team directly below them in the table.

The matches between title hopefuls Aughton Institute E and Red Lion Social Club A and the clash between six times Reigning Champions, Fleetwood Hesketh SSC and Reigning Merit League Champions,Aughton Institute A that were postponed this week will be contested next week in the set-aside week for teams to play any outstanding matches. Scarisbrick NSC sat out their free week this time around.

The Division One merit table still sees Red Lion Social Club B in top spot and have extended their lead to a very handy six points after their fine win this particular week, they now lie on 103 points. Rainford X SSC remain in second position but jointly after their heavy defeat this week, they sit on 97 points. Lathom & Burscough RBL move into joint second slot after their draw this time to also find themselves on 97 points.

    Division 2

This particular week saw a crunch match in the race for the Division Two title as the two top sides clashed head on. Leaders, St Cuthberts went into battle with Skelmersdale Wardens A and after an excellent match it saw the Halsall based outfit prevail with a 4-2 away triumph. The match began with the Skelmersdale A team very quick out the blocks as they raced into a 2-0 lead but huge credit must go to the St Cuthberts boys as they came roaring back to take the final four frames of the encounter to leave themselves in a wonderful position to win the title. The result sees the St Cuthberts side extend their lead to a surely unassailable lead of nine points with just three matches of the season to play, the Skelmersdale A outfit continue in second spot also nine points clear of the team directly below them so promotion is looking almost assured for them too.

Aughton Institute D continue to produce their excellent form of recent weeks and what took them to the title last term. This time around they came up against their club compatriots, Aughton Institute B in yet another Aughton 'Derby' match and engineered a fine 5-1 victory over their opponents. They were always in charge of the contest as they quickly found themselves 2-0 up and held that two frame advantage at 3-1 and then took the final two frames to seal their straightforward win. This outcome sees them move into third position in the league standings.

Stanley Club B met Aughton Institute C this week and it saw both sides unable to be split as they both shared the spoils in a 3-3 draw although the Stanley B boys will probably feel the happier team. The Aughton C side quickly went 2-0 ahead early in the match and held on to their lead as they arrived at 3-1 but credit to the Burscough based side as they took the final two frames to force the draw. This result sees the Stanley B team drop into fourth place in the league table.

Skelmersdale Wardens B clinched their seventh success of the current campaign and their first win since early February with a solid 4-2 home victory at the expense of Farmers Club. The opening two frames of the match were shared but the Skelmersdale B lads took the next two frames to move into a commanding 3-1 lead and managed to grab one of the first two frames to seal their win. The match saw Skelmersdale B's Liam Bostock in good nick with a nice break of 22 in his frame success.

The other match played this time saw Stanley Club C win their first match of the season with an excellent display in a 4-2 triumph over the tough Skelmersdale Wardens C side. Well done to the Stanley C boys in clinching this victory after some near misses this term and I am sure that will make them feel a lot better after such a fine win.
