Adverts at many Merseyrail Stations and on their website claim " Did you know...you can buy the cheapest train tickets to anywhere in the country from any Merseyrail Station?
This is not the case as a Qlocal reader found out to their cost. After purchasing a return ticket to Birmingham for £69.35 from the Trainline website they then found out they needed another ticket for the same journey.
After seeing the advert on Southport station they went into the ticket office to purchase another ticket for the exact same journey.
The cost of this ticket was £85.00. The reader pointed out to the man at the station that they had already purchased a ticket for a cheaper price and that Merseyrail say you can buy the cheapest train tickets to anywhere in the country from any Merseyrail Station.
The ticket seller had no answer to this so another ticket was purchased from the Trainline.
These false claims about ticket prices by Merseyrail are costing travellers all over the region more money than is necessary.
Merseyrail has been contacted for an explanation.
