The British Red Cross are calling on local businesses to sign-up a team for the Rock ‘n’ Roll half-marathon in Liverpool to raise money for the charity, which helps people in the UK and overseas get the life-changing support they need when crisis strikes.
Organised by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series, it is an iconic, sell-out marathon and half marathon across Liverpool city centre. It's been rescheduled and is now taking place on the 24th – 25th October and is a firm favourite for many runners.
The British Red Cross have their own discounted charity places for this event, however these are limited and first come, first serve so it is advised to book your places as soon as possible! Join the perfect fitness team-builder and raise money for a desperately needed cause.
The Red Cross has 260 volunteers in the Merseyside area. Recently, it helped those quarantined at Arrowe Park hospital in the Wirral; throughout their stay, they have offered them emotional support by phone if needed, and our staff and volunteers made sure they received parcels from friends and family members.
Last year they gave practical help and emotional support to more than two thousand people affected by emergencies such as house fires and flooding. They supported 755 refugees and people seeking asylum to settle in and be reunited with their families, and Red Cross volunteers loaned more than 370 wheelchairs, getting people moving again after an accident or illness.
In Merseyside, more than 6,700 people make regular donations to the charity to help fund its work and many more make one-off donations, donate items to one of the charity’s six Merseyside-based charity hops or get sponsored to do events such as the Liverpool Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon.
Charis Priestly-Bird, British Red Cross community fundraising manager in Merseyside, told QLocal: "We are incredibly excited about this event!
"Getting involved with the Red Cross gives you so many ways to use your kindness to help people in crisis. Every step you take could be helping t family made homeless by a house fire, someone who needs to borrow a wheelchair to stay independent after an accident and refugees and asylum seekers who need help settling into their new community or making contact with loved ones.”
