An update from the Mad Dog race team.
RACE CANCELLATION UPDATE
So sorry for the long post ! (Whimper!)
OK .... it has been a difficult 72 hours, a heart breaking decision, with lots of time & effort that sadly went nowhere, not to mention the 7 months of planning.
We are volunteers doing this for nothing, trying to put on a quality event for local charities and good causes.
This was an act of Dog and there was nothing we could do.
Having seen the weather today I know it was the right decision.
over 40 people helped dismantle Stanley today and then move everything to my offices, Mad Dog heros for sure. THANK YOU TO YOU ALL (Piccy attached)
So sad to see it all come to nothing.
On a Yellow warning it could have gone ahead, on an Amber warning we had no insurance, tell me who on here would accept personal, un-insured liability for 3350 runners in this weather ??? Please come forward?? Because myself and the round table won't do that. Safety first.
Even the Man City match has been postponed! (gutted, what will I bet on?)
We have had to make decisions quickly and have spent most of the day tidying up and taking the event down.
ON REFUNDS ..... There are none, our T&Cs are clear (and accepted by all at two points when registering, then confirmed by email) that refunds are not given due to bad weather. This is a safety issue. Your Safety. We cannot be influenced on safety issues by the fact that we would have to give refunds.
ACCEPTANCE TO THE RACE ...On that point the T&Cs also state that we can cancel a place at any time for no reason, and following two very nasty emails, two runners will never be running again. We don't need that.
ON THE NEXT STEP..... we have had discussions today (in the pub of course!! Where else to Round Table meet!! LOL) and we have come up with a half-way-house solution which will be announced shortly following approval from the committee.
We are all sad, no, devastated, that this didn't happen today, we so wanted it to, but it was an act of the Dogs and we were so unlucky with the timing.
PICCIES .....Stanley at 9:00 .........SO SAD
The Volunterrs today...........AMAZING ALL OF YOU
Katie Mawdsley who just had to wear the dinosaur costume even if the race race didn't happen ....... WHAT EVER IS YOUR THING KATIE!! ( BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND ALL THAT LOL)
Thanks again for all your kind comments (mostly) we all appreciate them.
As far as no refunds as far as I can see your wording says no refunds if the race is cancelled on the day. The race was cancelled the day before. so that wouldn't stand up if people insisted via their banks for a refund.
Secondly so what will you do with all the goody bags? As if they aren't distributed, you will have the stock which you could obviously sell and make money from etc.
Thirdly, your accounts on your site suggest donations to charities of £12250 last year. You had over 3047 runners in the main 10k, i am not sure if the other races incur a charge, but at £35 each just for the main race this is over £106k. This doesnt admittedly include road closure costs etc. But still a sizeable difference. Thus saying it is all going to charity doesn't quite seem true.
Happy to be corrected given further information if provided.
