Someone who might actually do something for the town, as opposed to Moore, who talks big while doing very little, and who would turn up for the opening of an envelope if it presented a photo opportunity.

At least he has a plan, Pugh didn’t even have that other than to say he was “fighting for Southport”, lack of evidence shows he didn’t win any....

However, do agree on the weakness of Damien’s plan as it’s a tad over political with the tedious blame of Sefton and Labour, would much rather see something productive unless being like the Lib Dem’s is his goal....

    For example:

    1) some facts of why he thinks Southport is a cash cow as just feels like a poorly backed up moan
    2) business rates are set by the government not local council so there would need to be even more concessions to boost the town centre rather than blame the council alone although parking reductions could help as well as loosening the stranglehold some landlords have
    3) how about schools, Southport does not have a strong set of secondary school, what can he do to help influence the government to make improvements in the area to get schools of a high quality or have a plan to build new schools when they are needed to support growth, eg there’s a site in ainsdale that would be better turned back into a school than houses
    4) large employers, what can he do to encourage big businesses to choose Southport or the near area to increase employment for skilled/non-skilled workers. John Pugh seemed to want to spend our money in blocking big business leaving us with a crumbling in town and out of town centre
    5) how he can get the council to work together better, maybe by influencing to ensure councillors and parties declare their press releases/slurs rather than being “community” contributors
    6) find a way to force companies like Britannia to invest in the Scarisbrick and Pontins or sell up.

ultimately he has a chance to succeed if he toned down the mindless press releases and the town don’t think life was much better under Pugh as he did his fair share of photo ops, voting for some unfriendly policies to Southport and things like renting his office off his own party at to fill the local party coffers via expenses.

There is nothing wrong with D.Moore complaining about the local council which happens to be a Labour run council. This council have been in office longer than Mr.Moore and have stood by while the town deteriorates. It is up to Mr.Moore, as an MP, to highlight the problems by bringing them to the attention of Parliament - he is hardly likely to be able to do that unless the problems are given publicity. What? You think a verbal announcement would bring attention? Anderson does not think so.
One of the greatest problems in Southport is that the local councilors do not work together as a team - they oppose every move that another makes. This is because a large number of our LOCAL councilors are not from the local area and quite possibly have a conflict of interest, i.e. that of personal gratification as opposed to local issues. These people are more than obvious, since their numerous photo calls are completely unnecessary for the benefit of the town.
Southport is not the only town affected by global changes in the UK - Mr. Moore has to join the queue to make his point in Parliament.
Brittania is a blight on any town - historic iconic buildings left to deteriorate and a very poor reputation of service in the leisure sector. The properties these people have should be purchased by the council. A loan to do so would be acceptable since such a move would bring greater future benefits to the area.
Far too many housing projects have taken place in Southport as opposed to offering space for new business/industrial concepts. When Brexit became a real prospect, confidence in business was seen throughout the UK by new companies starting out.
Car dealerships which are numerous to CENTRAL town areas are also a blight on the whole town and should be encouraged to move to out side locations.

A lot could be done for Southport - but much of the raised profits from Southport go to a joint council, and is at the mercy of that council for funding. Also, Southport is just one location that needs attention from the one distant paymaster, which views all such locations equally.

Well the labour Council could complain in equal measure that it is the inept Conservative government that has caused the problem by reducing funding. Austerity still rules, despite the Maybot's assertions.

Perhaps Dumb Moore could let us know when he actually achieves something, rather than just the usual bull excrement.

But before anyone considers voting Lib Dem, perhaps it’s worth reflecting what 15 years of Pugh achieved (other than voting for Southport unfriendly policies and items his councillors bemoan such as PCCs, a generous pension for himself, employment for local councillors and renting a constituency office off the Lib Dem’s with some of if likely channelled back into local party coffers to help print “the Southport news” and “focus” filled with propaganda “Bootle” and questionable graphs”)

Damien is putting out a lot of guff but in terms of outcomes then Pugh was no better and at least Damien rebels against the party, think Pugh only did that against gay marriage.

history shows for Southport a Lib Dem vote is a wasted vote.

All of the things he suggests cost money which the Conservative government has made sure that local authorities don't have so as usual has asking for things he knows wont happen and that he can then blame the other parties for.

What a load of tripe is printed on this page, Tories Labour are useless as regards local government. The present Labour council have done zilch for this town, and wasted millions on the horrendous shoping centre in Bootle but what can we expect from politicians local or national.

The horrendous Shopping Centre generates an income which subsidises your Council Tax.
Where did the millions spent on the Atkinson, the Pier, Kings Gardens and Hesketh Park come from?

QED more people including visitors enjoy those sites than a run down shopping centre. ?

but the money is generated by the shopping centre and I would think that the Strand will have more visitors today than any of the other sites mentioned.

Do you, by chance, have any justification for the existence of any of the Labour councilors? Or are there hidden grounds for your protest?

By the way has Da "No" Moore managed to reinstate the town's rail link with Piccadilly since his photo opportunity with failing Grayling last year?
