Politicians in Southport are bracing themselves for a really low turnout in the coming local elections as a reaction to national politicians.

Latest YouGov polling (above) shows that both the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition are registering their lowest ever public negative standings - and the trend is still downwards.

It seems that only voters who make their minds up on truly local matters are likely to vote in May's local election as national politics has become a big turn-off.

Theresa May's Brexit fiasco is thought to be behind her two year slide in popularity from 'net positive' to now having a record low rating of minus 39 per cent. Jeremy Corbyn, though, is presently beating her in the race to the bottom with a polling level of minus 53 per cent. While his unfavorability with Conservatives and Liberals in understandable,

it seems that the reason for Mr Corbyn's latest slump in support is due to his falling out of favour with millions of Labour voters over Brexit.

How has Labours Corbyn managed to do so badly May is having a terrible time.

Wait till the punters find out how much it will cost for their version of Brexit to see his ratings plummet further.

Instead of driving public investment up we would still be shipping billions to the EU and lose our ability to negotiate trade deals.

Labours policy would allow free movement to continue.

No wonder Socialists don't support him.

But they’ve not achieved anything locally or nationally so would be a wasted vote.

the local electives spend too much time with anonymous press releases/slurs and tattling with other parties rather than working together to benefit Southport. E.g

For a long time, I've held the view that local government elections shouldn't be held along party lines. All that happens now is that the candidates follow their masters in Westminster like sheep, when what is really needed are solutions to local and regional issues.

It is some achievement of Jeremy Corbyn to be registereing a poll rating of minus 53% after almost 9 years of so called austerity and the debacle over Brexit since June '16. He should be the most popular politician in the western world instead of being a figure of derision.

Presume the Lib Dems are too low in the polls to get on the bottom of the graph then?

No April Fool's Day is every day that Theresa May remains in office. As she turns the country into a joke.

At least the Liberal Democrats still have principles. Let the local elections send a message, though they will probably be too thick to notice.
