Southport will be looking to chalk up their first victory of the new season as they welcome Guiseley to the Pure Stadium.
So far the Port have registered two goalless draws, but there has not been a shortage of chances to break the deadlock.
Meanwhile this weekend’s opponents, Guiseley, have been in great goalscoring form.
They kicked off their campaign with a 3-0 home win against newly promoted King’s Lynn Town, before bettering that result midweek with a 5-0 victory over struggling Bradford (Park Avenue).
Those results leave the Lions top of Vanarama National League North after two games, with their goalscoring qualities on display throughout pre-season.
Whilst Marcus Bignot and Russ O’Neil’s side enjoyed big victories over Parkgate FC and South Shields, they were beaten heavily 4-0 by Hyde, as well as defeats against EFL opposition.
Nonethe lessLiam Watson’s men will have to be switched on to deal with in-form striker Aaron Martin.
The 28-year-old has scored four times in the first two games for the club, including a hat trick against Bradford.
Martin signed for the Lions this summer after an impressive season with Brighouse Town, netting 30 times.
Meanwhile the Port defence will also have to keep their eye on Jamie Spencer who will provide a threat from midfield.
The 21-year-old, who was another summer addition to the Guiseley squad, has scored three times so far this season and will he looking to build on that.
The Lions will hope that the start to the current campaign will put them in good stead going forward, after finishing just above the relegation zone in 19th place last year.
Southport came away with 1-0 victories in both meetings last season, with both goals coming from Jack Sampson, and will want a similar outcome this time to get a first win under their belts.
