Southport’s stranglehold on the Lancashire Challenge Trophy ended with a 3-1 defeat to Bamber Bridge at Darwen tonight (Wednesday March 20th).

We can have no complaints about the result, Bamber Bridge were worthy winners and we wish them well in the Final.

Southport went in to the break ahead through an Adam Anson header from a Danny Lloyd free kick in the 42nd minute which was against the run of play as Brig had had the better of the chances. They put that right in the second half with three very well worked goals in the 52nd, 68th and 77th minute.

There were ten yellow cards (we did lose count so it may have been more)

We dust ourselves down and go into the much more important matter of getting league points on the board starting with the home game on Non League Day against Buxton on Saturday.
