A Councillor from Southport is leading the fightback against attacks on Jeremy Corbyn's leadership by his deputy.
Labour Deputy Leader Tom Watson (above, centre) has split from Jeremy Corbyn time after time in the last week, particularly over Europe and over Antisemitism.
Watson, who is widely believed to be manoevering himself to take Labour's 'number one' job, has recently set up a new faction within the Labour Party 'The Future Group' which is being nicknamed 'the Moderates' Militant'. The Group opposes the domianance in Labour of the 'Momentum' faction which currently controls the Labour Party national executive. A recent meeting of this 'Future Group' in Westminster attracted 90 MPs and peers, including over a dozen current frontbenchers and former senior figures including Neil Kinnock, Peter Mandelson, David Blunkett and former Southport Labour candidate John Prescott.
Midlands MP Watson has also backed the claims of Luciana Berger and fellow Labour MPs who set up 'The Independent Group' and left Labour because of concerns about continuing antisemitism in the Labour Party.
Tom Watson's final break with Jeremy Corbyn came when he joined in yesterday's massive million strong march for a People's Vote over Brexit which Corbyn pointedly left alone.
But Kew Ward Councillor Janis Blackburne (above, right) seems to be fed up with Watson's manoeverings. Wriitng on a fellow activist's Facebook page, Cllr Blackburne says of Watson that he is "Amazingly racist. Immoral and sleazy to the core."
Other Sefton Labour members have been backing Councillor Blackburne in her attacks on Tom Watson. It remains to be seen whether these moves will find favour with the Bootle Labour Councillors who run Sefton Council, some of whom were very vociferous in their criticism of Jeremy Corbyn when they backed Owen Smith in the Labour Leadership battle against Corbyn.
It seems to me that both major parties are well on the road to some kind of split, but perhaps that's an inevitable consequence of them both becoming hostages to their extreme wings.
The next General Election is surely there for the taking but my impression is that the electorate's attitude is one of a plague on both your houses.

Local councillors should focus on local issues as should their opponents, be far better off with a bunch of independents as they’d have a chance of working together.

Surely if this “article” that’s on both local news sites was written by a local councillor they should declare it to maintain some level of political integrity....with the trademark “bootie labour” does have a hint of lib demmery.

Strange times and strange bedfellows, the right of the Conservatives support the democratic outcome of the referendum and so do the left of the Labour Party and for that they are both labelled as extremists.
Look to the socialist worker for some insight into the nonsense that the Labour Party pedals about staying in the EU being good for jobs and workers rights.
Reading this may give an insight for those remainers who wonder why Mr Corbyn won't come clean on leaving the EU or support enthusiastically an undemocratic second vote.
The multinationals are not looking to make your average joe better off they just want a sea of cheap labour from wherever they can get it.

How about looking to put right the failure to root out anti-Semitism within Labour?
The Conservatives are in chaos, a positive Labour would oust them completely. Shooting ones self in the foot hardly helps.
I agree. It is Labour's misfortune that at a time when they are faced with an open goal from two yards out they a saddled with a leader who is so far to the left that he is virtually off the scale. At any other time Labour would be 30 points ahead in the opinion polls but Corbyn frightens floating voters to death, and in the final analysis it is they who decide the result of General Elections.

Sadly very true, Corbyn's cause is certainly not helped by the constant barrage from the right wing press, but there is more than a belief that Corbyn's buttons are being pushed by Momentum, who are trusted to the same degree as ERG, both groups should be shipped off to a desert island, where they would have to work together in order to survive, then they may just learn that everything isn't quite so black or white.
