The impressive building on Marine Drive, near Southport Pleasureland, is expected to be the biggest lifeboat base in the North West.
It is being constructed at a cost of £1.4million – a huge effort for an organisation which relies entirely on donations from generous members of the public.
Building work has been delayed this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but is now back on track.
Nick Porter from Southport Lifeboat (Southport Offshore Rescue Trust) said: “We are really pleased that work is back underway on the new station.
“Visible progress is already being made as the contractors have begun fitting the sides of the building and we look forward to the project being completed in the coming months.
“We are looking forward to sharing pictures as the project progresses.
“Thank you to everyone in Southport and beyond all for your continued support.”
Southport Lifeboat is grateful for the continued support of local people and businesses.
They were recently presented with £500 raised by The Victoria pub on The Promenade.
Nick Porter said: “Sue and Steve Kirkbride of The Victoria have long supported Southport Lifeboat through fundraising events and hosting our crew after weekly training.
“Their support is always appreciated and goes to show the commitment of the people of Southport, and beyond, to ensuring a lifesaving service continues along our coastline.
“ We would like to thank The Victoria for their extraordinary efforts in raising an incredible amount.
“All money raised goes directly towards Southport Lifeboat and helping to save lives on the beach and out at sea.”
It costs £60,000 to keep Southport Lifeboat functioning all year round. That is no mean task during ordinary times, let alone the extraordinary times we currently find ourselves in.
Southport Lifeboat is funded entirely through public donations, and is independent of the RNLI.
There are other ways you can help the charity continue to save lives, including joining LifeboatLotto or online donations.
