Shortly before midnight on Friday the 15th January, a car stolen from an address in Liverpool a few days earlier was tracked by the police helicopter, as it was driven from Liverpool into Southport and out into Banks, where it was stopped.
Four men were arrested at the scene on suspicion of burglary. The stolen car contained tools and two other sets of number plates and a second car, also believed to be related to the four men, was also seized on Preston New Road in Southport.
The address of the burglary was entered by removing the lock barrel from a rear door to gain entry to steal the car keys. This is a consistent method of entry used by car key burglars.
Consider replacing old door lock barrels with anti-snap barrels and reduce the risk of entry via patio doors by using patio locks that link the door handles together.
For high value cars, consider trackers and even more basic vehicle security such as steering wheel locks or wheel clamps.
