ARREST | A 19 year old male from Formby has been charged with Failing to Provide and bailed to attend court at a later date. The male was arrested by officers from South Sefton Neighbourhood Team yesterday evening, Wednesday 15th November 2023, on Hall Road East, Blundellsands having failed to provide a specimen for a preliminary roadside drugs test.

The male was given further opportunity to provide a specimen for a preliminary test at one of custody suites, however continued to refuse to provide. As a result of his actions the male has now been charged with Failing to Provide contrary to Section 6 of the Road Traffic Act and bailed to attend court at a later date where he faces a potential lengthy driving ban, a fine and/or a custodial sentence.

This arrest follows another, unrelated, arrest nearby on Hall Road West on Monday 13th November 2023 for Road Traffic offences, also by officers from South Sefton Neighbourhood Team. In that instance a 23 year old male from Norris Green was arrested on suspicion of Drug Driving. The male had crashed the vehicle he was driving into a garden wall. He subsequently tested positive for a controlled drug when required to provide a specimen for a preliminary roadside drugs test resulting in his arrest. That male has since been released under investigation. Again, if charged this male faces a driving ban, a fine and/or a custodial sentence.

With the festive season fast approaching officers from North and South Sefton Neighbourhood Policing Teams are supporting Merseyside Police's continuing Operation Limit campaign. The campaign sees an enhanced policing operation across Merseyside targeting drink and drug drivers in support of Vision Zero, a worldwide strategy to eliminate all road accident deaths and serious injuries by 2040. Drink and drug driving is one of the ‘Fatal 4’ offences targeted by Merseyside Police to drive down the number of people killed or serious injured on our roads.
