Questions raised at Thursday's, November 16th) full council meeting by Dukes Ward Cllr John Pugh to to the Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Skills (Councillor Atkinson)
At what date is the demolition of Southport Floral Hall and Theatre scheduled to
begin?
Who is the appointed contractor for the demolition?
The Council is in a pre-construction services agreement with Kier Group. The main construction contract and in turn a demolition subcontract, have not been appointed at this time.
Cllr Pugh back in June this year reported implying demolition was due to start in July
But with weeks to go before the bulldozers arrive the public are being left in ignorance as to how much the removal of this piece of Southport’s history will cost. Councillors are being told that the costs of demolition are 'commercially sensitive'.
Lib Dem group leader on Sefton, Cllr. John Pugh, has expressed amazement at this stance taken by Sefton.
“The demolition is announced and programmed in for July, (perhaps the not the best time at the height of the holiday season), but it cannot be the case that no contract for the works is signed. If the contractor is signed up to do it he knows what he is getting paid and Sefton hopefully has a good idea of what it is likely to pay.

To be fair though the complex has been doing its best by falling down of its own accord.

Hopefully to won't end up like the George pub - half-demolished and left as an eyesore for years.

So you delay to spring (4 months) whose paying for the delay.
The equipment that's there now will be for irrespective for those
4 months.

Not usually one to moan about these things, but why close that pavement and have those gates and fences erected for the next 5 months for no good reason?
They've already been up for months. I take it they have to be paid for.
I know quite a lot of memorabilia is being taken out, but that doesn't mean the entire pavement has to be fenced off. That could have been done at any time in the past 2 or 3 years. It's a popular walkway around that side of the lake.
I can't imagine it's helping trade at the Lakeside pub either.

What else can you expect when Clr Marion Atkinson is involved.
The problem is the majority of people south of Southport will not vote anythiing but Labour, so we are unable to rid ourseleves of the Bootle Mafia.
