After two positive results this week Southport will be hoping to continue their good form into this weekends game against Darlington.

The 5-3 win over table-toppers Chorley was one of the highs for Liam Watson’s side this season.

That victory was followed by another win mid-week in the Liverpool Senior Cup, as the Sandgrounders finally got the better of Tranmere.
This weekend’s opponents Darlington sit only three points behind Southport in the National League North, but have played a game more.

The Quakers have had a hit and miss start to 2019, with their form being very mixed.

Since the start of January they’ve won two, drawn two and lost two.
Things got off to an awful start, when they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to York on New Year’s Day, with the Minstermen getting revenge on the team who had battered them 5-1 on Boxing Day.

They soon bounced back in the following match, with Darlo getting a big win of their own as they put three past Kidderminster.

That game was their last victory up until last weekend where they claimed a 1-0 victory over Blyth Spartans, with a Thompson penalty being enough to get the three points.

The 29-year-olds goals have become even more important for Tommy Wright’s side since top goal scorer Reece Styche left the club last month to join Alfreton.

Manager, Wright, has been in charge at Blackwell Meadows since 2017, heading into this game he’ll be hoping his side will be able to improve on the 0-0 draw between the pair in the last meeting, as will Liam Watson.
Following on from last week’s high scoring performance, Southport will be fancying their chances of getting a few goals, with both Sampson and Charles in double figures in the league.

If the Port are going to make an ambitious push for the play-off places, which they currently sit seven points off, they need to narrow that gap with a win this weekend.
