Cynthia Collister of May Cottage on Meadow Lane is celebrating winning the Front Garden Category in the Hesketh Bank Parish Council’s ‘Best Kept’ competition for the second year running.




Cynthia, who is 72, said, “I really didn’t think I would win again this year as there are so many lovely gardens in the village,” which is borne out by the fact that there were 17 on the ‘shortlist’. However, Dave, Cynthia’s partner, said, “I am not surprised she won again. When she’s not out and about visiting family and friends she is in the garden.”




The prize for winning was two free tickets to Southport Flower Show courtesy of Hesketh Bank Parish Council, which Cynthia attended for the first time last year and thoroughly enjoyed.


She said, “I am very impressed with the show and admire the great effort that goes into the displays. I picked up some bargains, a plant and some nick nacks for the garden, and particularly liked the gin tasting!” In fact the whole family joined her this year at the Flower Show because she loved it so much and wanted to share the experience.
