A Birkdale Campaigner is urging residents and businesses locally to submit their feedback regarding a controversial government consultation regarding the future of a main train service linking the town with Manchester.

Mr. Durkin is opposing all three options being put forward as they risk losing the necessary connectivity between Southport and the popular northern city of Manchester and its links to the rest of the country where many people commute to and from.

Mr. Durkin said: “With there being train stations based at Birkdale and Hillside, many residents here are dependent on the links ranging from students and business professionals commuting to and from Birkdale and Hillside.”

He added: “Many people don’t realize how important these transport links are to the wider Southport community, particularly here in Birkdale where there are many younger people now residing or based here over the last decade.”

“If we can now all pull together and ensure that we do our bit to save the service then we could very likely be saving someone’s business.”

“Please remember that despite all best efforts being made by many including Councillors and MPs, you must still complete the consultation to make sure that we have the best chance at keeping the Southport Piccadilly service.”

“I would also like to say thank you to our present parliamentary representative for his efforts.”

It regularly happens that 60% or more of eligible voters cannot be arsed to cast a ballot at local elections.

I can't see councillors who were elected by 10% of the electorate wanting to encourage more people to bother voting.
