Southport resident Dave Baines gave blood today at a local church, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southport, with a much needed donation to the NHS. Not his first time either, this was his 21st donation of blood.
Can do you do the same?
Tens of thousands of people are doing something amazing by registering to join the growing community of blood donors - ready to save lives when the NHS needs them.
At the moment particularly needed:
- Male donors - men can donate more often than women
- Black donors - Ro blood is needed and a common type for black donors
- O negative donors - hospitals need this blood type most regularly, as it can be given to all patients
As a new donor, we know you're eager to give blood and save lives straight away. We understand it's disappointing if you can’t find an appointment immediately. But don't worry, your help will be needed in the future so please search several months ahead.
One million more blood donors are needed over the next five years to ensure patients receive the right type of blood to save and improve their lives, with a particular need for Black African, Black Caribbean and younger donors.

After donating Dave was offered a kitkat and a club bar and drink.
