Back To Curzon

Following on from last week’s victory, Southport will be hoping to continue in the same vein as they come up against Curzon Ashton on Good Friday.

A second half goal from Matty Platt was enough to ensure the Port beat Hereford and secured their first league win in five games, as Liam Watson’s side now prepare for a trip to the Tameside Stadium.

Opponents Curzon Ashton enter this game two places below Southport on goal difference, with the Port being 18 goals better off.

Conceding goals had been an issue for The Nash all season, holding the second worst defensive record of teams outside the bottom three, with 61 goals against them.

2019 began well for Mark Bradshaw’s team, collecting 19 points in their first seven games.

Since then they’ve only won twice in ten fixtures, with the heaviest defeat in that time being a 6-0 loss to Altrincham.

Now Bradshaw’s side enter Friday’s game without a win in their last five games, with four defeats and one draw.

Last time out Curzon were at the end of a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Telford, with an Oliver Crankshaw penalty being nothing more than a consolation.

When Southport and Curzon met earlier on in the season at the Merseyrail Community Stadium things ended in a 2-2 draw, with an 80th minute strike from Dion Charles ensuring the points were shared.

The Port have already won at the Tameside Stadium this campaign with a 2-1 victory in the Emirates FA Cup in October.

Like previous fixtures, this meeting will decide more than where both sides will finish in mid-table.

Both sides are currently above were they finished last season, and both managers will hope to finish with a positive run of results.
