A fashion shop took advantage of quieter trading between Christmas and New Year to close its doors for good.

And so it's a fond farewell to Lavitta which opened in the town a few years ago.

I notice that more enlightened thinkers in other Towns, are reviewing their town centre Parking. We know in Southport, that it is killing town trade, but the Council think it's a good money maker and won't alter it, to the detriment of Southport. It really is sucking the life out of the town. To my shame, I too have joined the exodus of shoppers, who either go online, or visit towns nearby, where there are sensible parking regulations. When will Sefton Council wake up ?

Headline quote: “Another shop closes quietly on Lord Street”

I would hardly say that having huge yellow signs, taking up most of the front windows, stating “FINAL CLEARANCE from £10” is going quietly.

More sensationalist reporting, from a very poor Reporter.

Parking in Southport Town Centre compares quite favourably with surrounding Towns & Cities and we have one of the most convenient & cheap Park & Ride systems around.

Took my daughter for lunch at Bistrot Pierre yesterday and paid £3.00 to park, Daylight Robbery. Would I pay to park for a shop in Southport Town Centre, not in a million, when I can use an out of town retail centre. Having said that our out of town centres are **** poor. I recently visited the one at Horwich on the edge of Bolton surrounding the Macron Stadium...wow, what a choice, absolutely heaving and such a choice of shops. Southport has a much smaller catchment area, but Sefton really needs to up their game and also try and make an attempt to get people back into the centre of town. Getting rid of the traffic free Chapel Street would be a start, with perhaps a single carriageway through it and limited kerbside parking. At least that may help it to stop looking like a ghost town centre.

What is wrong with the parking regulations in town? It can't be to expensive as it's nearly always full. Fact is Town centres around the country are dying. Problem is the shops have nothing unique to offer, and can't compete value wise with online shopping. There is only so much money to go around, the more people spending online at the likes of Amazon, ebay or even online versions of the town centre shops. The less there is for local businesses.
Many of the shops are filled with employees that have little to no knowledge of, or interest in the products they are selling and are just box pushers.
