Sefton Council have increased the parking charges on the beach to £10 per vehicle for the coming season.Last summer the price was £8 so that is a whopping 25% increase.

Beach car parking charges for 2021:

£10 per day for cars.
£16 per day for horseboxes or minibuses.
50% off the above rates after 4pm subject to car parking management arrangements.
£30 season ticket for Sefton residents and those who drive an electric or hybrid vehicle

I suppose the Council will get a short term gain from unsuspecting families arriving for a day out on the beach, however, having been ripped off once, very few of them will ever return.

There should be advance warning of the £10 fee, e.g. at the roundaboout, before cars commit to joining the beach queue.....

Half price after 4 pm, or free after 6 so they want a fiver for two hours that’s good of them. If you have a horse box it would make sense to park it up somewhere close and ride the horse on and if anyone in a minibus has a disabled badge then that’s on free also. I suspect they are saving up for grass seed to finish the beach off altogether. Deck chair tax next .

They should REDUCE the costs to park on the beach,and NOT increase the fees,after the year that people have had with the lockdowns etc,then the place to be for visitors is a wide open space,to have a nice relaxing day sat in the sun,keeping social distances obviously,on a beach getting some much needed fresh air.............What are other councils with beach parking charging visitors to park their vehicle on a beach ? Would be interesting to see how these prices vary up and down the country.

I’ll bet the Council won’t be charging £10 for parking at Crosby Beach.

When I'm looking for a pleasant day on a beach I'd prefer a complete absence of cars from the sands.

This is for the upgrade to Ainsdale beach no doubt? The upgrade will be just a concreted area specifically for car parking so more money can be gained. Will ALL the parking fees be invested back into the beaches, or is this more money for Liverpool Joint Council? Is Southport's beach going to be upgraded too? Perhaps having several tons of sand replaced on it with groins being placed out toward the tide line to protect the beach from Liverpool's dock enlargement mud? or concrete laid at Weld Road, for the large number of cars parking there instead of the usual quagmire? Local councils have a duty to improve local areas - it is high time the focus of Southport received some decent attention.

Try getting onto Ainsdale Beach just to drop some people off or pick people up, and NOT need to park up.

Here’s a radical idea. Why not walk to/from the entrance and get picked up outside Pontins?

Doubtless current Councillors would welcome Q Local's Southport 'armchair ' Councillors in sharing responsibility for tough decisions on raising the level of Council Tax and /or cutting vital Council services.

One might suppose reading here, that creating the attractive environment, entertainments and events that draw visitors to Southport and the Sefton Coast is easy and cost-free.
I daresay having all these visitors' vehicles parked on the beach takes a toll. Surely it is fitting that they pay a fee.
The Council in balancing the visitor amenities and the essential Council services for residents has the unenviable task of allocating budget items including care for the elderly, roads, arts & cultural amenities and all else as central government makes its 'savings ' by squeezing local governments.

I understand that the Council is enhancing facilities for visitors, like toilets, and refreshments. It is only sensible that the people who use the facilities pay for them.

Then there is always the issue of litter, someone needs to be paid to remove it.

If people don't want to pay, the answer is simple, go somewhere else.

Pretty much came here to say this.

A tenner isn't bad for parking on a beach the whole day. Plus the mess they leave, and they really do leave the place like a landfill site, has to be cleaned which isn't free.
