From Friday, (7 August), Sefton Council’s Green Sefton team will be reintroducing charging for parking on Ainsdale Beach.
The all-day charge for parking on Ainsdale beach is £8 and payments will be by cash only.
Green Sefton Manager Mark Shaw said:
“Owing to a combination of the huge additional costs of supporting local people and organisations through coronavirus and a loss of most sources of income generation streams, Sefton Council is facing a significant funding shortfall.
“Re-introducing payments for parking on the beach is one of the ways we can start to reduce those effects and generate income for local service include the care of our 22 miles of beautiful coastline.
“For the past six weeks, since we re-opened Ainsdale Beach for parking at no charge, we have been trying to introduce a card payment system but connection problems due to the removal of a nearby mobile phone mast have made this impossible.
“We have, therefore decided to go ahead with a cash only system instead. Visitors are asked to have the right money available to hand over but we will have change that will be sanitised before use. However, as with any cash transaction, we wold recommend people clean their hands afterwards.”
For regular visitors, Sefton Council offers a money-saving £20 annual season ticket for parking on Ainsdale Beach. Details of how to apply can be found at www.sefton.gov.uk/beaches
This week, Sefton Council joined fellow Sefton Coastal Landscape Partnership members in a campaign to remind people to continue to be sensible and when visiting its coastline. The campaign includes advice to on the need to maintain social distancing and asks visitors to remain respectful and protect Sefton’s public spaces.
The Council has been asking people not to light barbecues or fires or to take glass bottles and other items onto the beach as they can cause fires and dangerous litter if left behind.
People are also being reminded that a Public Spaces Protection Order is in place preventing the outdoor consumption of alcohol in areas of Formby & Ainsdale Beaches, Southport Promenade and town centre, Crosby & Waterloo including by the Marine Lake as well as Bootle and Formby town centres. The Order can be enforced by Police officers and authorised Council officers and fines for breaching it start at £50.

Yet again Sefton Council chooses to boost its income by dipping into the motorist’s pockets. It’s no wonder the town is dying on its feet.
£100 is a rounder figure. Should make the beach a much more pleasant place to visit without all the idiots doing wheel spins and donuts in their polluting cars.

Traffic tailbacks north, south and east
The main street is devoid of decent shops.
The vandals wreck anything that makes Southport a nice place to visit.
The vagrants and rough sleepers intimidate anybody who does visit.
What is left of the beach is slowly becoming mud flats
Parking in the town is pricey, and woe betide you if you get back late.
Pretty unattractive really.
This latest idea should do the trick, making Southport a rather quiet place to live, like the 1950's

Weird comment. This thread is about Ainsdale beach. There is no park on the beach with swings and slides? And even if there was, why should they be getting charged? Parks and play areas are open now.

The charge is for Ainsdale beach. Few if any beach goers tend to go into town, so I’m not sure what this has to the ‘town dying on it’s feet’.
Regardless of political leanings, the reality is that there is a massive cut to the council’s budget. The Council making up the shortfall in this way is a better alternative than upping the council tax.

Yes but Sefton Council, like many organisations always take the easy option by shafting the motorist.

Well the Scousers are welcome to come to Ainsdale beach, and get charged £8 to park their vehicles on the beach, and the people from Southport can then go to Crosby beach, and park on it for "Free",and the £8 saved on parking can be used to buy fuel to get to Crosby beach and back.....Simple......

Also the thread is about council charges and a shortfall in their budget, you are trolling me with your stupid comments, you didn’t pick on knot Wright for mentioning playgrounds. Then you want to charge £100, there’s a stupid comment if I ever heard one and we hear plenty of stupid comments like that from a dumb Donkey face like you.
Then you call cars polluting that gives you away as the PNPs second account or his boyfriend .
