Not one for the squeamish - but after the concerns over food poisoning this weekend in two NW hospitals, QLocal is highlighting this 'rotten' story from Ormskirk hospital.
Our thanks to Lydiate's Graham Basravi whose fiancé Cathy was recovering from knee surgery this weekend.
He sent the busy QLocal news desk this exclusive photo and was happy to fill in the story this lunchtime.
Said Graham: "Cathy was initially offered sandwiches for tea on Saturday but having heard the local news headlines, I said simply 'don't touch them!'
She was then given an orange which Graham said initially looked OK.
"On closer inspection, I saw it had a small indentation on the top and was chilled and shiny. Opening it released lots of spores and it looked like this inside!
"I was horrified but the ward sister seemed unconcerned and simply said 'would she like another one?' Goodness knows how long it has been in store and what similar fruit was like!"
Cathy is now at home recovering: Graham's buying real fresh fruit from his local supermarket...
QLocal's Roger Blaxall approached the hospital for a comment.
Not good but you put it across as though
it was knowingly and deliberately served like that.
We've all bought some sort of fruit or vegetable
and got home and it's been rotten inside.
Shouldn't happen but it does and will.again.
That's life.

It is unfortunate that your relative was served a 'bad orange'. Unfortunately it is impossible to see the inside of such a fruit WITHOUT cutting into it first!
