Those Little Things............
Those little things that feed off you !
Hundreds of people have been bitten by a variety of insects that has meant many shops running out of anti-histamine ointment! Be Warned!
It is worse than I thought - I have been all over town today and have been unable to locate the aforementioned ointment.
The insects that bite humans, carry their own bacteria - it only needs a slight variation of bacteria to create an epidemic. Should we be worried when biting insects are on the increase?

I have read many times that eating marmite can help ward off these awful biting pests. Apparently, the pests can smell the marmite in the sweat on your skin, and they hate it.
Marmite on toast or a marmite sandwich every day may be worth a try, even if you hate the taste.

I do hate it with a passion! Thank you for the advice - but honestly, I would prefer to get bitten than to have to eat that yuk!

I never heard of the Marmite trick before. I don't usually get bothered, but I'm nervous around anything that buzzes. *insert your own joke*
We're plagued by fruit flies at the mo. Tried something I read off t'internet: cider vinegar in a tumbler, covered by clingfilm with tiny holes in it. Caught loads of the blighters. Don't know what to do with them now, as I hate killing things, but it works!

Well, thank you very much! Next time one comes flying toward me with your name on it - I will swat it!

Because I like to keep all my doors and windows open through the day - I spend half my time redirecting all kinds of flying insects back outside. I try not to kill any insects, but sometimes they really do push their luck!

I do too. I'm loathe to kill anything. But as you say, some do push it.
Spent at least an hour the other day trying to get a bee back outside. It was exhausting. Did it eventually, with the old glass and card method.

As anyone who is even mildly aquainted with me knows, I feel the same about killing anything. However, I do admit to swatting flys and bluebottles. BUT, I always make sure they are dead and not struggling. Also, I take it a step further by recycling.. As in, some of my creatures here really enjoy (and need) a nice tasty insect to gobble up, so anything like flys gets fed to them.

Mozzies have been particularly bad these past two weeks. I have been bitten inumerable times and always react badly to the bites. I had to go to the nurse at the doctor's to get some extra strength antihistamines as one bite was really bad. Two things help.... SkinSoSoft really does work. It's not infallible as the blighters can find a spot you missed but it keeps a lot away. When I was picking plums in the depths of the garden I was surrounded by a cloud of mozzies but only got bitten twice. If you treat a bite with After Bite as soon as possible after you feel it the swelling and itchiness will be greatly dimiminshed too.
I am reading a book by Ben Fogle who is a Marmitophile. He used it to cover his skin to protect against bites rather than eating it.
