Footy starts today with the first game at Gateshead. I can’t work up any enthusiasm whatsoever for the Premier League anymore, it’s not about football in this day and age, it’s simply a money-making business....and a big one at that.

+1 to that, when you read a club steeped in tradition like Bolton Wanderers are in danger of folding with debts over 100 million and compare that with Gareth Bale being offered 1 million a week to kick a bag of wind about, it seems the world has gone mad. As for the Premier League, I'm with you, couldn't care less, although I don't suppose you can blame the players. I blame the dead from the neck up brigade who fork out a thousand quid a year for a season ticket or £50:00 a month for BT/SKY sports etc. My prediction for the year (wishful thinking) all the Premier League teams run out to play on the first day of the season to be greeted by nobody in the stadium as people were fed up with the lot of them!

The reaction and elation shown by players, when winning a major competition like the PL, the Champions League or simply scoring a goal would suggest that it's rather more than just a "business"

Cant see it being a lot different to last season. Liverpool were clearly the better side for 60% of the Community Shield (The penalties, as always, are just a lottery). So, I reckon we are in for a tight scrap for the top, again.

We need to make a statement of intent against Norwich. Draws against lesser teams did for us last season.

Yes draws were our undoing last season , hopefully the players have learnt the lesson .
I'm not going to predict that will win the PL , but I think we'll be there or thereabouts.
And I think we will win a piece of silverware .

We need to get back to the defensive qualities of last season though. They were sloppy too often for my liking. Jurgen wasn't happy with them either.
