Same employment for ten plus years
Why would anyone stay in the same job for many years? The same profession, perhaps - but surely not the same place of employment. If you are working for yourself, that is understandable but to stay in one place of employment for twenty/thirty or even more years.
After childhood and schooling, a man can be working for more than half a century. Why would he want to waste his life in just one place of employment, with similar people to work with and making the exact same journey to work to do the same repetitive work - every single day?

Job satisfaction is best, if happy some where, stay there, many people in jobs they don’t like.

ive only been employed for the first 5 yesrs of working life and prefer independence so who am I to say

same job for years and years
Also , someone may apply for other jobs and not even be approached because they already have a job.
When I was working in the 90's , I applied for other jobs but no one ever approached me even for an interview.
I never even got a "sorry but we've taken someone else" kind of letter.

Because they don't have a choice? I don't know anyone who can simply flit from job to job as they wish. Not since the 1980s. Nor do I know anyone who has been in a job for that long, either. Perhaps generations ago, or the chap playing Ken Barlow on Corries. But I don't personally know anyone currently in employment who's been doing the exact same job, in the same place, for several decades.

ive been in the same job now since leaving school!love it .some people are simply content also just to have a job that their relatively happy in picking up their wage plodding away ,doing other stuff away from work.personally am self employed own shop aand workshop.feel blessed to have ajob that's stimulating.in fact should hav e retired this year but upped and moved shop to start it all again.but yes must be a torment though if ones trapped in employment that's a drudgery

As already stated job satisfaction is a big reason why a person would stay in the same job. The two main jobs I had lasted 23 and 27 years ,the first now pays me a very good pension along with my state pension I have a very comfortable life style. My section job also pays a small company pension . I think in life young people should lay the foundation early in life to build a better future for later life .

I think self-employed is a different thing. But it's nice to hear of someone truly content with their job. Good for you, it's not often that you come across anyone that enjoys their lot in life that much.
Long may it continue.

I was in my job for 36 years and then took VR . Most of the time loved it, I miss the people I worked with. Husband has been with his company 38 years and still there. What made me stay ? Good conditions good pay good holidays good pension. No reason to leave

I should amend my post to say that I don't know of many people who will stay in a job for that long. Again, it is lovely to hear of folk who've had that job satisfaction.
I was discussing pensions with my grandson. He's 22 and just finishing his masters in business studies. He's no faith in pensions, private or state. He's determined to run is own business and put his cash for the future into property. He doesn't see long term employment as an option in the future, only self employment. I see his point of view, but it saddens me that not every youngster will be given the opportunities open to him. It's hard to build any foundation if long term, full time employment is become more and more scarce.

I was in my last job 28 years, my commute was a 10 minute walk. I progressed through to a level of management where I was comfortable financially so no need to move on. I was made redundant but am now back with the same employer but a 20 minute drive, which is actually quite nice, work/life balance, I know people with an hour (plus) commute, not for me.
