    RIP Gordon Banks

    Died today aged 81.

One of the greatest goalkeepers in the world in his day and a really nice guy.

I had the pleasure of being in his company at a number of functions, very humble and genuine man.

    RIP.

Never, ever, argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience

I lived and worked in Stoke during the 70s. On my Saturdays off I would take 2 of my young sons to the old Victoria Ground. And stand at the Boothen End, to watch the great Gordon Banks playing for Stoke City.
He was certainly one of the finest goalkeepers I've ever seen playing. Sadly his career was cut short after being involved in a road accident resulting in glass injuries to one of his eyes. I will never forget his miraculous save against Brazil's Pele's header in a World Cup game in 1970 in Mexico, when he was in his prime. A save often claimed to be the best ever.

R.I.P. Gordon. You gave me, my sons the Stoke City and England supporters a lot to cheer about over many years.
Just be yourself, no one else is better qualified!!

Memories, that save even Pele couldn't believe it, then went to congratulate Gordon, RIP sir one of the few who earned the right to be called among the great sports stars.

Saw him break a few hearts in the rival supporters enclosures with tremendous saves and good distribution of the ball, A man of great ability and great humility, RIP
Out of the gloom a voice spoke unto me
''Smile and be happy things could be worse.''
So I smiled and was happy and behold
    Things did get worse!
