    Police Stop and Checks Underway

Lancs police carrying out vehicle stop and check exercise today on A59 Tarleton-Ormskirk, this according to a friend who went past......Presumably police are using their new powers, looking for motorists with no good reason to be out.

I knew that there were road blocks in place - it is getting rather like China now in the UK. Do we also have to show ID and passports?

A story in the Echo yestersday, was about a Liverpool guy who had been stopped by the police. He had a pair of windows packed in his car which he had bought from ebay and collected from a place a couple of hundred miles away. The Police searched the boot of the car and found the guy's wife. There was no room for her inside the car after the windows had been loaded, so she had to travel in the boot.

Wonder if she had her mobile with her, to talk to him en-route - by making a trunk-call?

Seems a bit harsh. Then again while I was on the pier a few days ago, quite a few cars pulled up with families in. Nice weather. If they were local, they'd have walked. So the 'stay at home' instruction obviously isn't getting through to a large portion of the population still.

Fair enough, if you have to go out to work, there isn't a problem. And we'd all like to have a nice drive out while the weather is good. But some of us don't want to either catch the virus or be responsible for spreading it.

After the outrage at the photos of the bikers and day trippers not long ago, you'd think people would learn. Then the police could do something useful.

I think it is idiotic taping off car parks so they can't be used, it only ends up corralling people together or people parking illegally or in dangerous places.

It's a bit daft considering people might be using the car parks to park up near work.

I suppose if folk did as advised, they wouldn't need to. As usual, it's the few who spoil things.

If you and your spouse after being inside for two weeks just need to get a change of scenery you get in your car go for a drive for an hour come back home without getting out of your car en route without being in contact with anyone what the hell is wrong with that.

Nothing at all, unless we are talking about a complete lack of puctuation.

Albeit sometimes with the best of motives.

We live in a very popular tourist area full of residents who retired to live
here and many local unique shops scarce in other areas.

One lovely Spring day seeing the amount of self isolating elderly dog walkers about we decided to leave the space to the needy drive 10 minutes to an open space with uneven footing.

We were out under 1 hour saw one other couple from a distance.

    I believe we acted responsibly.
Now the guideline is start your walk from home.

Well, I could jump in the motorhome, drive for an hour to somewhere scenic, unload my bike and have a nice ride. But I'm guessing it wouldn't be classed as 'essential travel', so I don't.

Fair enough for those who are ignoring the government’s advice, but I’d personally rather see the police dispersing the groups of teenagers who are gathering and who are far more likely the add to the spread of the virus.
We should all be following the guidelines, but it seems some parents won’t or can’t keep their children in, time to get hard and issue some fixed penalties and for persistent offenders perhaps a electronic tag and more severe penalties.
The longer this carries on, the longer we will all be asked to stay at home.

Many of the Police Forces have been 'reminded' about the over zealous tactics and overreaching their powers, some incidents may be down to individual officers but setting up road blocks and dying lakes must have come from above. If they can go out playing with a drone or going into a corner shop telling the owner to remove Easter Eggs from sale it proves that they have nothing better to do.

Police chiefs are being urged to develop some more appropriate guidelines.

Numerous instances of police officers' zealousness is putting them in a bad light.
